Golden Oak was announced in 2010, master-planned by Walt Disney Imagineering, and completed its first homes in 2011: roughly 980 acres, about half held as conservation land, carrying a planned community of some 300 custom homes operated by Disney's own realty subsidiary. The Summerhouse — the residents' clubhouse, built in the style of an Italian villa — anchors the community with dining, a pool, and resident events.

Named neighborhoods include Kimball Trace (Tuscan-inspired, named for animator Ward Kimball), Marceline (named for Walt Disney's Missouri hometown), and the Four Seasons Private Residences beside the Four Seasons Resort Orlando and its Tom Fazio-designed course.
